INSTITUTE FOR THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF AERONAUTICAL STRUCTURES - BUCURESTI, ROMANIA

STRAERO is a Romanian Institute whose main activities are theoretical and numerical analysis, respectively testing - of aeronautical structures. We have valuable experience in material selection and composite product analysis and certifications from both civil (recognised by international authorities) and military national authorities.

During the last 20 years integral aeronautical structures (both civil and military) such as IAR 827, IAR 93, IAR 99, IAR 46, YAK 52 and PUMA helicopter have been tested in our laboratory. Our testing facilities cover extended tests for both parts and whole aircraft (from small aircraft such as IAK -52,BN -2 up to medium transport aircraft such us BAC 1-11). A global load is introduced in the structure through a reduction chain for each subassembly (wing, anterior fuselage, posterior fuselage, empennages). The error for inertial and aerodynamic loads is maximum 2%.

Our institute has the capability to design equipments for static and dynamic testing of aircraft structures. Our team designs the necessary support systems for the structures that need to be tested, according to the sketches of the general assembly, as well as the load introduction systems. The testing structures are mounted on the modular supports, existent in our laboratories. The manufacturing of these structures corresponds to our clients; we do the design and mounting of the general assembly. We use CATIA for the design of all testing systems, not only to facilitate the interaction with numerical-command machines, but also to analyse the stresses and displacements of the components.

Our specialists are authorized RENAR (the Accredited Body for Quality Systems Certifications, fellow member of the European Organization for Quality) and AACR, the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority - member JAA (A1 - for civil aircraft and their components design, B4 - for specialized tests for civil aeronautics), for the following types of analysis (simple or combined): traction, compression, shearing, torsion, bending, collision, vibration and fatigue. We use for numerical analysis soft such as ANSYS, MSC NASTRAN and MSC PATRAN. The testing laboratory is authorized OMCAS for the types of analysis mentioned above, performed on items and assemblies pertaining to aeronautical industry (both civil and military). OMCAS is the Romanian Military Body for Certification, Accreditation and Monitoring within National Defense Ministry.

Our institute has been involved :
- in stress analysis and testing for elastic multi-layer structures with rigid strengtheners (stainless, aluminum) assuming elastomer that hyperelastic or/and viscoelastic material.Such structures have been applied to aircraft and automobile tires, canopies for jet aircraft and antivibration mounting for engines. We have performed stress analysis for products of our partners where nonlinear stress-strain relationship, environmental conditions (temperature) and the amount of time that load are applied, geometric nonlinearities and related thermal characteristic of components for every materials are known.
- in material selection and composite product analysis.
- developing of wind system with horizontal or vertical turbine axis (0.5 - 3.0 kW) for isolated areas. Our institute has also been involved in stress analysis and dynamic testing (aeroelastic) for wind turbine rotors. Such models will be applied to small farms. Numerical simulations are based on testing or empirical entry data.
Our facilities permit static and dynamic testing of small or medium size parts or equipment. in predictive evaluation of pilot post-traumatic stress for Military Aeronautical Medical Institute (control team).
